Audition preparation
Work on your songs for up coming auditions. Prepare and tape your sheet music appropriately. I’ll help you with song choices, appropriate cuts if needed and suggest rep if you’re unsure of what songs to sing.
-
Improve your technique
I don’t believe in a one size fits all technique. I teach the whole person and not just the voice so I have an holistic approach. Breathing, posture, resonance and articulation are key factors for me in understanding and improving your voice. So we’ll look at those areas as well as many others. I can help you understand and implement varying vocal qualities in your singing and understand when to use these qualities appropriately in a given song. I’ll help to smooth out those gear changes/registers/passaggios in your voice that so many singers find tricky.

Acting through song.
All too often performers fall down at this hurdle in the audition process/room and simply don’t connect to the song text that enables them to give a genuinely connected performance. It isn’t just about the voice, it’s about the impact of a given performance. I can help with that.
-
Start to enjoy singing.
Technique is important as I explained in the technique section. I’m a technique geek and I’ll help as much as I can to help you understand the sounds you are creating and how to improve them. BUT FUN IS KEY! I aim to create a fun atmosphere where you’ll feel free to improvise, try things out and essentially hopefully not feel inhibited when you sing.

Nadine Cox
Whether you’re looking to prepare for show auditions/auditions for performing arts colleges or schools, brush up on your vocal technique or you want to have a lesson to work on a specific area of your singing or spoken voice, I offer online singing lessons and lessons for the spoken voice. The majority of my clients are working professional adolescent and adult voice users. I teach all ages from 9 years + and all levels.
I’m an associate of world renowned voice teacher Mark Meylan, having been mentored by him.
During my teacher training with Mark I also studied with leading practitioners Ron Morris and Janice Chapman. I have a PG Cert in Vocal Pedagogy from the Voice Study Centre and University Of Wales Trinity St David and a BA Hons Degree in French and Modern European Studies from UCL and The Sorbonne, Paris. I have been teaching singing for over two decades and am a very proud associate to Mark. I have a special interest in vocal health.
I am an active member of the BVA, AOTOS, The Musicians’ Union, Equity and Spotlight. I run a very successful private singing practice as well as being a resident one to one singing teacher at Emil Dale Academy and Trinity Laban.
“I love teaching singing. I love the voice. I love helping an individual discover new things about their speaking and singing voice whilst having lots of fun doing so!”
I have students currently working in the West End, in UK touring productions, regional productions, gigging, session singing, TV and film and audio.
Highlights for me over the years have been coaching the two child lead voices for the Netflix children’s’ series “Rhyme Time Town” for Dreamworks and working with the 3 sets of lead twins on “Identical” at The Nottingham Playhouse. I am also continually inspired in working with the students at Emil Dale and Trinity Laban.
My Approach
Modern teaching built upon over 20 years of industry experience!
I don’t teach according to a particular system as I believe in a bespoke approach based on what I hear an individual singer or actor needs. Although I teach holistically, in that I approach the singer or actor as a person not just a voice, I feel it is vital to also approach the voice scientifically - meaning physiologically and acoustically. But, I won’t confuse you with unnecessary words or ideas! I want to help all singers and actors find the most freedom and ease in their singing and speaking voice that will hopefully allow them to move between varying singing genres and styles, allowing my students to sing with varying vocal qualities and giving actors grounding and versatility in their voice.
Too many singers and actors spend years singing and speaking with tension - I hope to help anyone who comes to me singing or speaking with tension, to release that. The voice is a mechanism and you want it to work as efficiently and freely as possible. In the lessons, once I have identified an area or areas of the voice that need work/improvement, I will devise a set of bespoke exercises for you which, when practiced regularly, will aim to help to undo any muscle memory habit that was causing the issue/s in the first place, and help to retrain the areas of the vocal mechanism that are causing any identifiable vocal issues.
I will also guide you through the importance of a vocal cool down/reset and give you the exercises for this. Cool downs takes minutes and are a vital part of being a singer/vocalist/performer. Primal sounds are key for me alongside Accent Method Breathing. Singers are also artists and I hope to help the singer to develop their artistry in coaching them in their performance. I’m also a working actress and singer so my decades of performance history help me to do that.
“I’ve been teaching for just over 20 years alongside a very successful performing career.”
“I like to think a singer comes away from their lesson with me not only understanding and using their voice in a better way, but also having connected to the material they are singing, enabling them to give an authentic, impactful performance.”
Singing Teacher & Voice Coach
Modern teaching built upon over 20 years of industry experience!
At the start of 2020 I had approximately 60% of my private clients online. Some were in LA, some In Australia, most in the UK who wanted singing lessons with me but lived too far away. When the pandemic started all of my lessons reverted online.
Since the transition back to face to face lessons, all of my clients have chosen to remain online. Why? Because it works for them. Hectic work and life schedules mean that they only have to find an hour for the lesson rather than have to sort travel to and from, or trying to schedule time to get to a lesson and juggle after school activities etc.
And they really enjoy the lessons online! I have noticed an increase in the consistency of attendance and in two years, I’ve only had a handful of cancellations. Essentially, online lessons really work with modern day life.
I have a rigorous safeguarding policy for under-18s & hold an up to date enhanced DBS

What Will I Need?
-
Laptop & Zoom / MS Teams
Everyone has a preference for which device they prefer to use in the lesson. You can use either a laptop, tablet or iPhone. Some prefer laptops for the quality of sound but I have many students who use their tablets or iPhones - whatever suits you! earphones are also recommended. Try to avoid bluetooth earphones as students have had issues with these in the past. Having the latest version of Zoom’s conferencing software will ensure the highest quality experience possible.
-
Stable High Speed Internet Connection
A poor internet connection creates unnecessary obstacles to your teaching experience. It is recommended that you are connected to a stable, high speed internet connection (<25Mbps). A wired internet connection through an ethernet cable is also recommended. Ethernet cables and USB adapters are available as a pair for around £20. But this is not imperative!
-
High Quality Built-in or External Microphone
If you’re using a computer and depending on your computer, it may be necessary, but not imperative, to utilise a high quality external microphone for audio improvement. Some newer laptops have high quality built-in microphones (newer MacBooks). Most laptops and PCs will need an external USB microphone such as the Blue Yeti or something similar. But again it’s not imperative, just a suggestion if you are able. Most of my students use iPads or tablets and use ear phones they plug in with an adaptor. Some have no need of them. Again it’s whatever suits you best. I would recommend having ear phones handy as sometimes they are very useful - not Bluetooth as many students have encountered difficulty with these in the past. I use my Apple wired earphones and students are very happy with the clarity and quality of the sound.
